LaQuita believes that musicality and timing are the most
important elements in salsa and she incorporates this in all of
her classes. So while she teaches combinations, she also
teaches you how to make your dancing playful and fun. Her
goal is to make sure that the leaders have a very clear and
concise lead, while the followers learn to relax and respond to
the lead. Connecting with your partner is essential and

BUJINKAN - Japanese Martial
Arts
The oldest of the
Japanese martial arts. These are the true ninjas.
What separates the Bujinkan from
other forms of martial training, such as Karate, Judo, Kendo,
Aikido, etc., is the fact that the techniques studied today are the
same as those formed on the Japanese battlefields in 1603. During
the 250 years of peace that followed, as their skills were no longer
needed, the warrior class began to undertake more humanitarian
pursuits. The skills developed during that time of peace held
perfection of character more important that actual combative
effectiveness.
BUJINKAN. "where the heart of the Ninja still lives"

Argentine Tango
The
owners of the studio.
Born and
raised in Buenos Aires, Angel Echeverria has been
dancing tango for more than fifty years. He was
taken under the wings of the master milongueros who
taught out of love for the dance when tango was specific
to the neighborhood clubs and local dance hall, before
tango shows, before videos, before tango became a
business.
Angel's approach to tango is to teach you to
dance from the heart, to help you make
a
profound connection with the music and with your
partner. He teaches the essential techniques that
make steps and
combinations seem effortless.
Angel and
his partner, Julie offer classes that focus on bringing
authenticity, precision and fluidity to your tango, as
well as an emphasis on improvisation. And Angel
happily shares his repertoire of tango stories.
Julie
Friedgen is a former ballet and flamenco dancer who
studied with Michael Brigante, one of the most
well-known teachers in Los Angeles. Julie grew up
listening to the music of Carlos Gardel and watching her
parents' Argentine friends dance tango at parties. The
music was always in her soul but it wasn't until over
fifteen years ago that she began to study tango.
Once she
began, she knew she had discovered the dance for the
rest of her life. The technique she learned over the
twenty years she studied dance gives her a strong
foundation for the demands of tango and it is her joy to
pass this on to her students.
Together
she and Angel have become well-known for their
distinctive "milonguero" style of tango.
Rafael Galante
Buenos Aires-born and
raised, Rafael Galante is a tango dancer equally at home
in the milongas of both BA and LA. His father was a
well-respected professional bandoneon player and Rafael
grew up surrounded by tango. It's no surprise that he
went on to express the 2/4 on the dance floor.
Having spent his life as
an avid jazz fan and musician, the parallels between
jazz improvisation and the intimate "conversation" of
tango
become an integrated force
in his dancing. While he has studied with some of the
greats, he considers Manuel Martinez his true mentor.
Martinez is a maestro of the Villa Urquiza style, which
Rafael considers the best and personally most enjoyable
tango form. As a teacher, he now spices his excellent
training with his own style, imparting the essentials of
classic tango technique, while encouraging students to
find their own tango voice.
If you frequent the
milongas of Southern California, you surely have
witnessed his personality on the dance floor.
Lisa Cristiano
Lisa is a lifelong dancer.
Ballet was her first love, but tango is without a doubt
her passion. Drawn in and enthralled initially by
the music, she embraced Argentine tango and has never
looked back. While in Buenos Aires, Lisa studied with
many of the best known and well-respected maestros there
as well as back in the States. An extremely dedicated,
lyrical, and intuitive dancer, she enjoys teaching
ballet to young students and imparting her love of tango
to students of all ages.
Rafael and Lisa have performed at Opera Pacific,
REDCAT, John Anson Ford Amphitheater and many other
esteemed venues throughout California.
Jerry & Christine Perez
With
over 10 years of experience in various styles of dance
as professional teachers, dancers
and
choreographers, Jerry and Christine shifted their focus
towards Argentine Tango in 2004. Their lifelong
fascination with tango propelled them to make a splash
onto the national tango scene at the first ever 2007 US
Tango Championships held in NYC judged by Jorge Torres,
Sergio Natario and Alejandra Arrue. After taking first
place, they realized this would be the beginning of
their journey into an entirely new direction in their
professional careers. Upon arriving back home to Miami,
Florida they returned to the drawing board and dove into
an investigation of this complex and mysteriously
beautiful dance. Jerry and Christine felt a strong
desire to develop a more comprehensive, organic, fun and
straightforward approach to understanding and teaching
social improvisational based tango classes. They wanted
to provide what they found to be lacking in their
initial search for information. Out of necessity,
creativity was born. They deconstructed the long
patterns they were taught by breaking them down into key
elements of the dance as well as finding ways to easily
improvise by finding the endless amounts of
possibilities this dance offers. They are known for
their infectious enthusiasm and generosity as well as
their genuine interest in the development of their
students.
Jerry and Christine understand the value of placing
strong emphasis on improvisation, technique and
etiquette for the social dance floor. They believe
anyone can learn to dance and teach by the same formula
they use for success...discipline, dedication,
consistency and a positive attitude are key.
